Neil & Carolyn

I was brought up in the Newport area and although it wasn’t a Christian upbringing my childhood memories are still happy ones. I was fortunate to have godly grandparents so there was some Christian influence even at a young age. When I was 11 my parents became Christians and this was a really positive change in our home.

Shortly after we moved to Caerphilly which is where I have lived ever since. At the age of 14 I made my own personal commitment to Jesus Christ and worshiped in the Caerphilly Elim Church before joining the Penyrheol Cemetery Chapel when it was founded. I went to school at St Ilans Comprehensive and have always worked locally. I met my wife Carolyn when we were both attending Caerphilly Elim church.

I was born in Caerphilly and have lived here all my life.  As a child I learned that God was a real personal God who was interested in the big and small things in life. This was because my parents who were both Christians showed me the love of God and the difference it made. At the age of 11, I realised that Jesus died on the cross, so that I could have a personal relationship with Him. The Bible says: For God so loved the world that he gave his own son that whoever believes on Him would not die but have everlasting life. The truth of these words and the realisation that He died for me caused me to make a decision to commit my life to Christ.   Over 40 years on, I can testify to a God who has helped, led and guided me throughout all my days and the differing stages of my life. Schooldays, work, marriage, motherhood ... He really is a faithful God.

We have been involved in children’s/youth work both individually and as a couple for over 30 years. Our current involvement is in running the youth club at our local church-Penyrheol Cemetery Chapel. The meetings are held every Thursday evening during term time between 6.15-7.15pm. The starting age is 5 with a maximum age of approximately 13. A warm welcome is extended to all children within this age group and the club is run on an entirely free basis.
